Frequently Asked Questions

What are your favourite/preferred news sources?

My list of daily news sources is pretty long. Since this is my most frequently asked question, however, I did make up a Beginner’s Media Diet page of some of what I consider core or essential syndicated reading. I also have a blogroll of awesome news and politics blogs to be reading.

Advice for beginner newsies/writers?

Read everything. Seriously. Read everything. And keep a notebook.

How did you get into journalism?

Potions, witchcraft and a whole lot of blogging.

Can I be published in/get a job at Current Intelligence?

Unless I know who you are, this isn’t a great question to ask me. I’m not in charge of such matters and so I can neither give you a job nor publish you. Unless I can personally speak to your value as a potential contributor, the best I can do is direct   you to our submissions page.

Why haven’t you written about Scandal X, Country Y or Important Issue Z?

First, try searching the tags on my blog (thepoliticalnotebook.com/tagged/inserthere). It’s more likely than not that I’ve at least given a nod to it on here. If not, it’s probably because A) I am only one person and am unable to cover everything and B) because other blogs are doing it better and I’m not interested in redundantly discussing something that other people are doing a more than adequate job of covering. However, I do take blogging requests. If you want to know more about something or want an issue to receive attention here or just have a suggestion for a cool thing to do, all it takes is asking me nicely.

Where are you from/what do you do for fun/what music do you listen to/who are you?

As a general rule, any information that I might be interested in sharing with the world is already on the interwebs. Try here, here or here

What languages do you speak/understand?

Beside, obviously, English, I have a fair grip on Arabic and French, if you would prefer communicating with me in either of those languages.

Will you publish something of mine on your blog?

Maybe. Bear in mind that I take this blog quite seriously. I have high standards for the things that go on here when it comes to aesthetic appeal, grammatical correctness, relevance to the blog and to my audience and various other concerns. Feel free to submit or query either on the submission page or at my email.

Do you have Twitter/Google+/Facebook?

Yes. Yes. No.

You’re a feminist, therefore…why do you hate men? Are you a lesbian?

Here are some discussions of mine about my personal feminism. Nowhere in there do I confess to misandry (a term far from synonymous with, and in my opinion, quite antithetical to, feminism). Whether or not I’m a lesbian is none of your concern, and is quite irrelevant to the whole situation.
